I work with practice-as-research in actor training, grounding the work in rehearsals, one-to-one coaching and workshops. I track how methods and terms transfer between British and Chinese contexts, locating where imported techniques misfire or distort in conservatoires and rehearsal rooms, and use that critical work to clarify and correct how Stanislavski-based, action-based and related approaches are understood and applied. From those points of friction I also map where Western methods and Chinese traditions can genuinely meet, extending and further developing ways of working in practice and feeding these back into international actor-training discourse.

At the structural level I analyse the training frameworks, rationales and institutional mechanisms of British conservatoires against Chinese contexts, including structural relations such as the industry–school–student triangle, and propose how curriculum development and assessment can be critically adapted and creatively adjusted across contexts.

The Rich Picture-like diagram method I have developed is a working language for cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary understanding, rethinking existing methods in acting pedagogy and practice-as-research. These studies appear in leading international journals and conferences in performance training.
